Certificates for geotextiles
Geotextile for foundation is a non-woven synthetic material with increased density and strength, the installation of which solves a number of tasks to ensure the durability of building and structure foundations. Our catalogue on the official Flexx website features a wide range of foundation pad geotextiles with different parameters and characteristics, available at competitive prices in Ukraine. We offer this innovative product for sale both wholesale and retail.
What is foundation geotextile?
Our testing and user experience show that a non-woven geotextile made of polyester, polypropylene, or polyether fibres, bonded by needle-punching with subsequent calendering, is suitable for installation beneath foundations. This material features:
- Increased density.
- High elasticity, compressive, and tensile strength.
- High load-bearing capacity.
- Chemical resistance in aggressive environments.
- Rot and microflora resistance.

Geotextile for foundation specifications
Geotextile with the following technical characteristics guarantees high performance for strengthening the foundation pad:
- Density: 150-300 g/m².
- Thickness: 0.8-2.4 mm.
- Tensile strength, longitudinal/transverse, not less than: 5.4/6.0 kN/m (12.0/7.4 kN/m for impregnated material).
- Relative elongation in length/width: from 22/35 or 40/60 for non-impregnated, depending on tasks to be solved.
- Operating temperature range: from −50 to +200 °C.
We produce geotextiles for waterproofing and foundation reinforcement in rolls 3.0 and 1.0 m wide, and 100 and 150 m long. Custom production of this material in a 1.5 m width is also available.
Tasks solved by geotextile
Geotextile laying during the foundation construction of any building or structure allows a number of important tasks to be solved:
- Ensures the strength of the foundation pad prior to placing concrete slabs or pouring the foundation.
- Stabilizes weak soil that is unstable or at risk of temporary excavation or trench destruction.
- Reinforces the swelling soil to prevent its deformation.
- Separates layers of different bulk materials used in the construction of the foundation pad to prevent intermixing, so that each layer fully performs its specific functions.
- Ensures the water and moisture drainage from the concrete foundation structure towards artificial drainage, thus preventing soil silting beneath the building base.
- Distributes the load from building structures to the soil evenly.
- Prevents the growth of weeds and tree roots; inhibits harmful microflora and mould.
Using geotextiles under strip or slab foundations significantly increases base durability.
How to choose geotextile for foundation?
The primary selection criterion for a geotextile in a foundation pad is its density. The higher the density, the lower the risk of fabric rupture. However, its cost will also be higher. To select a material with an optimal density and avoid increased construction expenses, choose:
- Geotextile with a density of 200 g/m² for water drainage and filtration, and even 150 g/m² for blind areas.
- 250-300 g/m² for soil-aggregate layers separation.
- 300 g/m² or more for load distribution in high-rise buildings and heavy structures, as well as for reinforcing swelling soil.
In addition, when choosing geotextiles for a foundation, consider:
- Fabric thickness. It affects the material compressibility and depends on the structural load on the foundation. The optimal variant to choose is a geotextile thickness of 1.6-2.4 mm.
- Filtration coefficient, which depends on the pore size – the higher the density of the material, the smaller the pores are.
- The fabric tensile strength.

Geotextile under the foundation slab installation stages
To build a reliable and durable foundation, it is important not only to choose high-quality geotextile with suitable characteristics, but also to follow its installation technology, which involves several consecutive stages:
- Excavate a trench for a strip foundation or a pit monolithic foundation; level the bottom and compact the soil.
- Lay geotextile on the excavation bottom along the entire length of the trench or pit with an overlap of at least 200 mm at the joints and allowances of about 1.0-1.5 m at the edges. On weak soils, you can install several layers of material.
- If thermal fastening is impossible, fix the geotextile sheets using a torch or blow lamp (this is the most reliable method of fastening), or with staples (plastic or metal). At this stage, cut holes in the geotextile where it adjoins the drainage system and other structural elements.
- Backfill granular materials (sand, crushed stone, or soil), separating them with synthetic sheets to form the foundation pad. Before pouring concrete, cover the top geotextile sheet with a 50-100 mm layer of sand, and compact it well.
Installation specifics of geotextile for strip and monolithic foundations

When constructing a strip foundation, its side wall must be covered with geotextile. The geotextile is glued to it using waterproof bitumen mastic. The sheet laid in the foundation pad must extend 150-200 mm beyond the base so it can be joined to the geotextile side wall facing.
The installation specifics of geotextile for a monolithic foundation include:
- The use of fabric with a density of at least 300 g/m2.
- Geotextile installation on the excavation bottom before placing the pad, and between layers of gravel and sand. Fabrics with a density of 200-300 g/m² are used to separate the layers.
- Joining the lower geotextile sheet to the upper one from the outside. Only after this, the formwork assembling, the internal space reinforcement, and concrete filling are to be made.
- Installation of a geotextile fabric with a density of 150-200 g/m² on top of the hardened foundation.
