Calendered geotextile is a specially processed needle-punched non-woven fabric using only synthetic fibres. Due to its improved characteristics, it is widely used in various industries. Flexx LLC produces and sells the types of this material that are in demand among domestic consumers. One can order them in rolls of 3.0 meters in width.

What is calendered geotextile

Calendered geotextile is produced from polyester fibers. They are evenly punched with serrated needles on a special machine. At the same time, the fibers are interlaced and joined into the canvas. This canvas is heated almost to the melting point and passed through calender rollers, thereby providing reliable binding of fibers into a single structure. The finished product is twisted into rolls of the required length.

Calendered geotextile characteristics and properties

Calendered geotextile is characterized by high elasticity – its elongation at break can reach 36% (depending on material density). Moreover, the production peculiarities determine the fabric's durability and increase resistance to tensile strain. However, heat treatment reduces the water-transmitting capacity. It is less than that of conventional needle-punched geotextiles. Other positive characteristics are:

  • possibility of use in a wide range of temperatures without reduction of initial characteristics. Calendered geotextile is frost tolerant up to -40 and can survive heating up to +110 °C;
  • negative natural factors resistance. Fabrics are resistant to sunlight and moisture. They are not affected by microbes, fungi, and rotting;
  • chemical resistance. Geotextile is inert to acid, alkali, and salt solutions;
  • environmental friendliness. It does not emit any substances harmful to humans and the environment during its use;
  • ease of installation. It is carried out without any special machinery and equipment;
  • universal applicability. Suitable for different projects, as well as construction, household, and other tasks.

Calendered geotextile application areas

Unlike other types of geotextile, heat-treated non-woven fabrics are less permeable to water. That’s why they are not suitable to be applied in conditions of intensive impact of sedimentary and groundwater and on particularly wet soil. It is mainly in demand as a stabilization and separation material and is actively used for:

  • separation of bulk components layers: sand, crushed stone, gravel, etc;
  • slope and bank stabilization;
  • road «pie» layers reinforcement;
  • increasing the foundation load-bearing capacity, ensuring a more even load distribution.

Calendered geotextile is suitable for various processes in the construction of roads and railway lines, hydraulic, and other projects. It is widely applied in landscape projects.
