Cavity geomembrane: application and characteristics
Cavity geomembrane is an innovative synthetic black-colored material with studs, used for waterproofing and drainage. It is a polymeric film, treated with a special method to create a cavity surface from one side and studded surface from another. Studs provide excellent traction with the ground and other materials. That’s why this film has become an ideal solution for leak protection, slope stabilization, drainage systems, and other engineering tasks.
Main areas of membrane application:
- foundation dampproofing protection;
- tunnels seal system;
- damp walls sanitation;
- foundations (up to two meters deep);
- basements and retaining walls.
Despite its thinness (from 0.4 to 0.6 mm), the geomembrane is extremely durable. Cavity membrane main functional parameters are thickness, strength, and stud height.
Cavity profiled geomembrane advantages.

Cavity membrane is called differently: drain membrane, waterproofing membrane, geomembrane, and profiled membrane. It is made of high-density polyethylene and has many positive qualities.
- Strength, durability, environmental resistance. Due to a special structure with studs and grooves, this material resists stretches and tears and can serve up to 50 years.
- Water-proof properties. The membrane prevents possible flooding and keeps the ground dry.
- Sunlight resistance. The cavity geomembrane is not affected by sunlight, that’s why it can be used outdoors without burnout and destruction.
- Ease of installation. Due to the special shape of the studs, it is easy and quick to lay and fix. This makes it cost-effective and also saves workers time and effort significantly.
- Environmental safety. The material is made of high-quality polymers that do not emit harmful substances and do not pollute the environment. This is important when using the membrane in the immediate vicinity of natural water bodies and environmentally sensitive areas.
Cavity membrane, which can be ordered at Flexx company, has many advantages and a wide range of applications. Affordable price, easy installation and durability make the membrane an indispensable material when arranging a foundation, blind area, terrace or roof construction. Cavity membrane application

Cavity membrane is versatile enough to be demanded in various areas.
- Construction and waterproofing. The cavity geomembrane is indispensable in construction for waterproofing foundations, underground structures, roofing, and other objects. Due to the cavity structure, the material provides reliable moisture protection, prevents leaks, and maintains the durability of structures.
- Road building. In this field, the membrane is needed to strengthen soil foundations, prevent pits and potholes formation, and protect the road surface from moisture and mechanical damage. The material ensures road structures’ stability and increases their service life.
- Landscaping. The material is excellent for drainage systems installation, land slopes strengthening, reservoirs or other planting elements formation. The membrane helps to preserve the landscape objects shape and structure, prevents soil erosion, and provides optimal conditions for plant habitat.
- Dams and reservoir construction. The geomembrane is used for damp-proof barriers and coast fortifications.
- Agriculture. In this field, the profiled geomembrane is used to construct greenhouses, hotbeds, and drainage systems, as well as to fix soil and protect plants from pests. The material provides optimal conditions for growing crops, it increases the yield, and reduces cultivation costs.
- Environmental projects. The membrane plays a very important role in land recultivation, ecosystem restoration, and effluent treatment. The material helps to preserve biodiversity, prevents environmental pollution, and creates favorable conditions for plant and animal life.
Cavity geomembrane is required to avoid chemical leaks into the soil at industrial facilities. The material is perfect for land slope stabilization, preventing landslides and avalanches. This membrane helps to increase work efficiency, provides reliable protection for construction objects, and creates sustainable and ecologically clean conditions for the environment.
Membrane with geotextile is used as a drainage layer. During soil filling, a membrane without geotextile is used to protect the waterproofing layer from mechanical damage.
Cavity membrane installation rules

The profiled membrane can be installed with studs inside or outside – this depends on the final purpose of use. The possible temperature application range for its use is from -5 to +30°C.
Textured geomembrane has a cavity surface serving as mini-reservoirs for moisture accumulation and retention. To accumulate water for interior gardens, a drain membrane is used. In this case, the moisture gradually evaporates and moderately irrigates the soil in a capillary way – for this purpose the membrane is laid with the studs downwards.
- Textured geomembrane is fixed to the wall with a fixing profile. If it is necessary to glue sheets or rolls together, a self-adhesive sealant tape is used.
Cavity membrane is resistant to moisture, fungi, bacteria, and chemicals. It adapts to different shapes and contours, so it allows you to implement the most unexpected architectural scenarios.
Correct installation of the cavity membrane plays a key role in ensuring effective object protection from moisture, mechanical damage, and other negative impacts. Following the installation rules allows to achieve optimal results and ensure the structures durability and reliability protected by this innovative material.
