One of the most common and popular polymers in the world is low-pressure polyethylene, which has a high density. It is denoted by such an abbreviation as HDPE. The process of obtaining recycled HDPE involves using pipes, plastic bags, plastic bottles, boxes and other polymeric products from this material. Properties and characteristics of HDPE polyethylene

HDPE polyethylene is a durable polymer material with a linear macromolecule. It is made by polymerization of ethylene with catalyst systems (organic solvents), at low pressure. As a result, crystallinity regions are formed in its structure, which gives this polymer special physical properties, including:

  • high density – 0.96 g / cm3;

  • stiffness and hardness;

  • thermal plasticity;

  • chemical resistance to many aggressive environments;

  • cold hardiness;

  • steam and water resistance;

  • tensile strength and shock loads;

  • good dielectric properties.

Polymer material foam softens at a temperature of +120 degrees, melts at + 130 ° C, and becomes brittle at a temperature of -70 ° C. It is produced in the form of granules with a low degree of transparency, with a fraction of 2-5 mm.

The recycled HDPE material has all the properties of the virgin HDPE, including environmental and health safety, but it has a lower cost.

Technology of production of recycled low pressure polyethylene

Processing of waste HDPE is carried out by casting, extrusion and blowing. The whole process cycle consists of the following sequentially performed stages of the works:

1. Sorting, which provides the separation of raw materials by quality, type, level of contamination and color;

2. Crushing of waste into particles of the same size, using special equipment;

3. Washing the crushed material and cleaning it from dust and impurities of not polyethylene inclusions;

4. Agglomeration of recyclables in machines with a rotating rotor, where it turns into a mushy mass;

5. The melting of the resulting mass with the addition of water, while the melt is sharply cooled, converted into small sized balls of irregular shape;

6. Extrusion, which consists in melting the obtained balls in the extruder, and pushing them through the forming hole. The threads of the softened material coming out of the extruder are cooled with water and cut into pieces called recycled HDPE granules.

The recycled polyethylene of low pressure received on such technology is sorted, packed up in bags and is a semi-finished product for production of various polymeric products.

Ideal performance properties inherent in low-pressure polyethylene led to its use in a variety of industries. This material is used to make:

  • pipes for water, gas and main transportation of chemical products and aggressive environments;

  • insulation for electrical cables;
